Journey to the West - Day 3

Well we left Brandon, Manitoba and headed into Saskatchewan. Saskatchewan has a very similar landscape as Manitoba right until you drive through Regina. Then the landscape starts to roll and there is cattle everywhere; unfortunately I left my cowboy boots at home so I was not able to fit in well. But besides that point Saskatchewan reminds me of the old west and I would love to live there one day and work on a ranch.

The old western landscape transfers into the southern region of Alberta and there is even more cattle ranches. Then you got the Canadian Pacific Railway traveling along the Trans Canada Highway and you are waiting for Cowboys to Ride along and raid the train.

Then you enter Calgary where you get the preview of the monstrous Rockies that lurk in the background of the landscape. Will and I were pumped to drive through the Rockies but right when we entered Calgary you start to have your nerves take hold and not the adrenaline pumping you up. Though you just got to get through it and drive right into the belly of the beast.

Journey to the West - Day 2

Well Will and I have made it to Brandon, Manitoba. On Wednesday night we stayed at a Inn in northren Ontario. It was called the Red Rock Inn and it was a very nice hotel. But it very much reminded me of the Hotel in the novel The Shining. Other then the whole expecting twin girls to be walking down the hallways or redrum on the mirror, it was a very nice hotel. I would recommend that if you are traveling through Ontario and you are on the Trans Canada Highway and it is late passing through Nipigon, take the detour and go to Red Rock.

Anyways, the day started out very wet and gray and it was getting pretty boring going through Ontario. The landscape was still nice to observe but driving only 90km/h is not fun especially when you have to wait for passing lanes to come when a slow truck is in front of you. Also I got to learn not to make sharp minute second turns into parking lots, because my accomplice likes to cut off other vehicles.

Finally the sun came out when we were just getting to the border of Ontario and Manitoba and it lit up all the golden fall colour and brightened up our dreary day. Then when we got to the border construction put us to a stand still.

Manitoba I have to say is a very interesting province. The best word to describe the province is Flat. Though I is not boring being so flat, it is not like when you are driving Windsor to London. It is only the first day of driving in the prairies and it may get very boring today, but when you first drive through them it is very fascinating. I wish the sky was clear though because you could see without end. Also the roads off the Trans Canada Highway through Manitoba have no on ramps. You just pull up to a stop sign and then get on to the highway. Also to the roads going of the highway are almost all dirt roads, so if you plan on moving to Manitoba get a 4x4 truck.

Now Manitoba is very different place then Ontario. We stopped in Winnipeg to get an oil change and food. When we got there we found out that Winnipeg has something in common with Detroit. They have he Michigan Left (if you do not know what this is look for it on urban dictionary or search on Google). Other then that the streets are pretty much the same as a big city in Ontario. But in restaurants you allowed to have gambling. We went to a Boston Pizza and they had slot machines in corner of the restaurant. Then on the drink menu you can order bottles of wine to bottles of whiskeys, vodka, rum, and specialty liquors. They are defiantly more relaxed then Ontario.

I have to say though that Manitoba is very appealing and it is not as boring as i thought it was going to be. But now on to Saskatchewan then to Calgary.

Journey to the West - Day 1

Well it is the end of the first day of travel for Will and I, have just stop an hour short from our destination. We made it through Michigan with ease. It is nice that the State Government raised the speed limit to 70 mph. If we would of Travel through Ontario we would have arrived in Sault Ste. Marie in 12 hours of leaving Windsor. When traveling through Michigan it takes 6 hours to get there. Will and I managed to arrive in the Soo in 4 hours. Knowing that fact you will know why i have no pictures of our Travel through Michigan.

Now going through Michigan was an ease and we were able to cut a lot of time off for this trip. When we arrived in Canada though our time has been put on a standstill. We really haven't gained time or have lost time. When we arrived in the Soo, I had to have my car checked for drugs and weapons. Then there is the Trans Canada Highway. Highway 17 is very slow compared to the high speeds in Michigan.

But since we are not driving at high speeds on the Highway 17, it allows you to take in all the scenery around you. Even though Will and I will be living in a province that is filled with tremendous beauty, Ontario has its fair share. The Canadian shield has marked beautiful rock structures in the landscape of Ontario. They are not as big as the Rockey's but they are just a breathtaking.

Also too we cannot forget that Ontario gets to pleasure of having 4 season and we get to gaze with our mouths open at all the reds, oranges, yellows, and purples that fill in the tree lines of the Great Lakes - St. Lawrence forest. This I will miss as I depart to a province that has very little fall colour.

Well now for a good nights rest and back on the road again tomorrow.
